When you only have the 6 players, no subs and some players out of position, you know that you are up against it. This was the story behind Spikers' latest loss against York VC.
It's easy to judge a losing team, but when you effectively have an entirely new line-up and even the referees are providing praise on how well the team is performing, credit goes out where credit is due.
York VC took the first set 25-23 whilst Spikers closed out the second with a 25-21 scoreline. 25-20 was the result of the third and the home team took the victory with a 25-17 margin in the final set. The team should be very proud of themselves especially Nick Morris who was named as the MVP.
As the cliché goes, "it's only a matter of time" before the guys pick up their next win and not for lack of effort - far from it. The players themselves will be somewhat disappointed with their current run of form having played so well during their recent matches only to come away on the wrong side of the result when these matches could easily have gone either way.
A loss is very hard to take when you play so well, but when you are presented with such challenges and turn out a performance like that, it makes for the watching of a full strength Spikers side a mouth-watering prospect indeed.
