On Saturday the 28th of June Pick & Mix officially starts for the summer! "So what is it?" I hear you cry.Well it’s an outdoor friendly league held every Saturday morning at 10.30 in Eaton Park. If the weather looks bad then please remember to check the Spikers Facebook page for up-to-date information, it may be cancelled if it’s raining a lot, or if we have extremely high winds. "So do I need a team to enter?"No, it’s done on a purely individual basis, each week players will turn up and randomly be put into teams, after the first round of games have been played (each game being just 1 set) the teams will then be mixed up to create new random teams and so on. Each player on the winning team of each game will be awarded
At the end of all the matches each player’s points will be totalled, recorded and carried over to the next week giving us a league table. At the end of the season fabulous prizes await those who do well! Because this is open to anyone regardless of age, skill or ability I will be drawing players from 2 different “hats”, players at beginner / development league level and players at local league and above level. This will ensure that teams are as balanced as can be, and that there is never an instance where a team of beginners is playing a team of local league players. I hope to see you all there. Scott Beech Publicity Officer Under under 18 girls team recently played in the national championships, here is a first hand account of what happened from Rosie: "Firstly, massive thank you to Annette Whitehead for being such a darling and giving up her time to provide transport and coaching for the team. Also a big thank you to all of the parents who helped out with transport and provided the team with support. Despite the early start we were all in high spirits looking forward to the day of volleyball ahead of us. We left Norwich around 7:00am hoping to arrive in London, for our first game, at 10:30am but unfortunately horrendous traffic lead to a massive delay. When we finally arrived we had to pretty much just jump on court and start playing, this didn't seem to be too much of a problem as the whole team performed very well. Beth Whitehead had a particularly good game with some top defences, which ultimately stood us in good stead to walk away with the victory we deserved: Norwich Spikers 2-1 Polonia. Unfortunately after our victory the next match wasn't so successful and the early start was beginning to show. Annette Whitehead, our (top) coach for the day, changed the team around showing a great improvement throughout the team. We went into the final set 1-1 and all was still to play for, some digs, sets, blocks and several spikes later it was all over, we couldn't quite pull it round and lost 2-1. At this point it was a tense waiting game to see whether we had qualified or if we needed another victory to secure our place... Going into the final game against the toughest opponents of the day, we didn't fancy our chances. The whole team put on an incredible show and played exceptionally well as a unit, despite these efforts the score was 2-0 to Malory. Round 2 of the U18's competition seemed to be slipping away. But, fortunately we had done enough to get through! Well done, roll on round 2!" He will be starting a new job in London and I am sure you will all want to wish him well for the future. Tomasz has been an important part of the Spikers club for the past two years and he has helped us to build up a fantastic club and following over this time. As mentioned previously, the committee are dedicated to the club and its continued success and we are currently devising a plan for taking the club forward when we re start training again in September. Please rest assured that whilst some session times may be altered all groups and levels will continue to be covered and we hope that our new plan will ensure that even more sessions can run with the Spikers club. We now have the exciting opportunity of a new location for some of our training sessions and we will let you know of the proposed changes as soon as we can.
We appreciate all of your continued support and please bear with us at this difficult time but please do not hesitate to contact us should you have any queries. Spikers Committee. Just a brief reminder regarding training sessions over the easter period:
