Womans U18 National Championship Update: Norwich Spikers Jr Women progress through to Round 2 at Ashcombe along with Polonia Academy and The Boswells Blaze. Congratulations!!!
Men U18 National Championships update: Our Norwich Spikers Jr Men u18 team made it through to Round 2 after good performance against Brentwood and Tendring teams. Next round:Sunday 20th, Last 16 teams in the country! Development League finished last Friday with our teams coming in in 4th, 10th and 12th- we'll let you know when the next league is starting but for now, we know that all twelve teams that played this time are entered again so lets go Spikers!! Finally an update on Local league- the Mens adult team are now in 3rd place and the Junior Men in 5th. The Mixed adult team are 7th with the Mixed Jr teams in 6th and 4th and the Womens Jr team are currently 5th in womens league. We're looking forward to seeing everyone for the Christmas meal at the Library on Monday- remember the meal is at 8 with some drinks before hand at the Belgium Monk. Spikers Annual Awards will be given out also... Volleyballing love x Boys under 16 National Championships Round 1 update:
On Saturday 24th some of our junior players competed in Round 1 of the Boys u16's, in a pool of 4 teams against hosts Tendring Technology College, Boswells Team B and Boswells Team C. Only 1 team qualfies to Round 2. I am happy to inform everyone that our Norwich Spikers Boys u16 have comfortably sailed through to next Round not only without dropping a set, but also not allowing any of the teams to score more then 19pts in one set. Really good display of volleyball from Adrian Bonawenturczak - outside, Ben Callis - outside, Zak Gasson-Hudson- setting, George Frazer- opposite, Jacob King - middle, Chris Mcd- middle, Tomek Zajac - middle. Round 2 on 23rd of January in Nottingham! Bring it on! Women under18 National Championships update: On Sunday 25th some of our Junior girls in the local Women u18 squad played in Round 1 of the National U18's. In a group of 5 teams our team won 2 games (vs Brentwood A and Brentwood B), drew 1 (vs Tendring) and lost 1 (vs Boswells). This has defnitely secured them a place in the next round, however it isn't clear yet whether from 2nd or 3rd place. Either way we are through! Well done to all players: Becky Warrington - setting Sarah Hanrahan - setting Nicola Callis - outside Debbie Stapleford- outside Hannah Storey - middle Beth Whitehead - universal Tracy McCall - universal Eliza Evans - middle Jourdan Hodge - middle Rosie Mills Smith- libero Round 2 in January. This Friday we have no Spikers teams in local league matches but our three Dev League teams will all be playing in the penultimate night of the first round of Development league this season. Junior training will be going ahead on Saturday and training as usual next Wednesday. If you havent already paid your deposit/put in your order for the Christmas Meal please do so asap- we had 22 people confirmed at the last count so it should be a brilliant night and the food at the Library is yummy! Training is on as usual this evening- the first session, open to all players of any ability, members and non-members, will start at 7pm in Hyadn Morris Hall at UEA sportspark with Tomasz. The teams will then be training afterwards at 8.40 with AM and SJ. Remember the team training sessions are for members only but please speak to one of our coaches if you'd like to look into joining one of our local league teams. See you this evening! Development League: We now have a team in each league group of the competition with Dig,Set,Spike going up into the red group, Spikers Utd going into orange and Spikers juniors holding tight in the green group- some very close first night matches with Spikers Utd going down by just two points. Well played to everyone and good luck over the coming 4 weeks. Local League: Mens: Spikers Men are currently sitting in first place with 18 points, closely followed by GYGVC and Pirates on 16 points. A great position for the first ever local league for many of the players! Spikers Juniors Mens team are currently in 5th place, with huge potential to start climbing the table in their coming matches. Mixed: Spikers Juniors 1 are currently topping the mixed league tables on thirteen points, with Spikers Juniors 2 and Spikers adults coming in 6th and 7th respectively having just played two games each. Women: The only Spikers team in Womens league this year, Spikers Juniors are currently in fourth place having played 4 matches- well done girls! Remember that for local league not all teams have played the same number of matches yet so keep watching the results each week as they change! Regional League: The second of six eastern region competitions is due to take place this Sunday (11thNov) at UEA Sportspark so please come on down and support our Men and Junior teams and help cheer them to success! Spikers Juniors: November/December is very busy for our junior teams, with boys u16, girls u16 , men u18 and women u18's competing in Round 1 of the National Championships. It all starts Saturday 24th November with boys u16 travelling to Frinton-on-Sea, followed on Sunday by the Women u18's going to Chelmsford. Saturday 1st December and Sunday 2nd December sees Girls u16 and Men u18's going to Brentwood and Frinton on Sea respectively. Last year ALL our teams made it to Round 2 so hopefully we can repeat this great success, especially with the Boys u16 team looking particularly strong this year. Good luck to our amazing junior players! Training this week is back to usual with the beginners/fun session from 7-8.30pm coached by Tomasz. This is in Haydn Morris Hall, UEA Sportspark and is open to all players of all levels and experience. Please do come along if you're a beginner or more advanced and might like to join one of our teams at a later date.
From 8.40-10.20pm, team training will resume as normal. Ann-Marie will not be around to take the Mens session this week but we wish her all the best and look forward to seeing her soon. Richard will take this training session and the mixed matches will run as usual at the end of the sessions.
